BB 5: Betty Blue is ready for Christmas!

Updated: Mar 15, 2023

Hi kids! It’s me, Betty. Its been a long time since we talked so here goes…!

When we started out on this journey, I’m pretty sure they told me we were going somewhere warm. Well let me tell you, it was cold for a long time on this boat. Had to find a cozy spot to hide from the chill.

I started to think that Captain Grampy was going the wrong way. I did some research and checked the charts and he decided he knows where we are going.

Finally, it started to get warm. And the plants and birds were ones that Nanny has never seen before. She gets pretty excited over plants and birds (and animals too!) The plants we are seeing now look like something out of a jungle. There are palm trees, vines, ferns, and live oak trees. Nanny is always stopping to look at something!

And the birds we see! There are many white birds around here. There are egrets – they are the biggest ones, with long black legs and a long yellow beak.

Then there are Snowy egrets – they are much smaller and have black legs with funny yellow feet. Looks like they are wearing slippers.

And there are ibises – they have weird droopy beaks that they use to poke around in the grass for insects.

Then there are the animals. We saw wild horses wandering free on an island. Nanny says they were let go by people long ago, and they still live on the island. Grampy had to get out of the way when they were coming up the path!

The weirdest animal was the armadillo. They have hard scales on their back to protect them when they are digging. They are about the size of Yoshi the cat.

Ok manatees are pretty weird too. Nanny says they look like a giant potato with nose holes. They live in the water and are very slow. You have to look close to see the manatee under the dock in this picture.

Dolphins are the most fun animal. Nanny and Grampy always jump up whenever they see one. They swim along side the boat like they are racing with us.

It’s almost Christmas time now, and it sure seems odd that it so warm outside. Nanny and Grampy went to a Parade of lights for boats. Its kind of like a Santa Claus parade. There were tons of people watching.

We saw a beautiful Christmas tree in St Augustine. It was much bigger than Nanny’s tree.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone. Hope you have a fun holiday!

Love From Nanny and Grampy!
